Melbourne Family Photographer – Breastfeeding Session
If you are a mum with multiple children
and you constantly feel like you are drowning in washing… this is for you.
Because honestly? The washing itself was never even my biggest issue.
It was the sorting.
The giant mountain of tiny clothes.
The endless mixed-up socks.
The piles on the couch.
The “clean but not put away” chaos.
Everyone rummaging through baskets trying to find matching socks or that one school shirt.
As someone with ADHD, the visual overwhelm of it all would completely short-circuit my brain. The bigger the pile got, the more I avoided it… which obviously made it worse.
And after having 3 little kids, I knew something had to change because the relentless cycle of washing was driving me absolutely bonkers.
So I created a system that completely changed the game in our house.
And genuinely… it saved my sanity.
The Basket Method
The system is incredibly simple.
Each person in the house has:
ONE dirty washing basket
ONE clean washing basket
And both baskets live in their bedroom.
That’s it.

You can even choose baskets that match your decor so they don’t feel ugly or chaotic in the room.
The Golden Rule
Dirty clothes NEVER get dumped in the laundry.
Ever.
Every person’s clothes always go straight into their own dirty basket in their own room.
No mixed family washing piles.
No giant sorting sessions.
No random socks appearing in mysterious corners of the house.
When a basket is full, I:
- Collect that ONE basket
- Wash it all together
- Dry it all together
- Tip it straight into their clean basket
- Put the basket back in their room
Done.
Sometimes I fold everything and put it away immediately.
Sometimes the clean basket sits there for a couple of days before I get to it.
And honestly? That’s completely fine.
Because the clothes are:
- Already sorted
- Already clean
- Already in the correct room
There are no piles taking over the hallway or couch.
No overwhelming sorting process waiting for me later.
No giant sock mountain from hell.
It’s simply:

And for my neurodivergent brain, removing the “sorting” step changed everything.
Why it works
No sorting mountains
No mixed-up socks
No visual overwhelm
It's flexible
Fold immediately or
leave the clean basket for
a day or two - both are totally fine.
Special clothes?
Wash whites and delicate items separately. When the basics are simple, the extras are manageable.

The reason this works
It removes the decision fatique and takes the pressure off.
It simplifies the process
It supports your real life (not a perfect one)
It works with your energy, not against it
"You don't have to do it all"
You just have to do what works for you today.
